Welcome to RecordNow Music Lab. This ReadMe document contains last-minute product information and updates to the RecordNow Music Lab documentation.

Note: Depending on the software version you are running, some of the features described above may not be available. For information about upgrading to take full advantage of all the features described in this ReadMe, visit www.roxio.com.

Supported formats

The following recordable media and image formats are supported in Roxio RecordNow Music:

  • Supports all popular recordable formats: CD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, DVD-RAM, BD-R, BD-RE, BD-R DL
  • Supports popular image formats: ISO, C2D, and BIN/CUE

Note: BD-R/RE discs can be copied using the copy task in Roxio Home. Music Disc Creator, DVD Music Assistant, LP & Tape Assistant, Sound Editor, and Video Copy & Convert only support CD and DVD burning.

Registering your Roxio software

Be sure to register your software to take advantage of free product and driver updates, and to receive technical support (as outlined in the support information policy). You can also choose to receive news, tips, and e-mail notifications of Roxio promotions.

Note: You must be connected to the Internet to register your software. Registration is free.

To register your software:

  1. Ensure that your computer is connected to the Internet.
  2. From any of the main Roxio applications, click the Help menu and then choose Online Registration.
  3. The Product Registration window opens.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration.

If you cannot find the answers you are looking for in the online Help or the User Guide, you can get the most current information from our Web site (http://support.roxio.com).

Trial version

If this product contains a trial version, you have the opportunity to use additional software or features for a limited trial period. You will be informed that a trial version is included when you first run the software. When the trial period expires, the additional software and features will be deactivated and can no longer be used until purchased. (The standard features of this product will not be affected.) You can purchase the additional software or features at any time, either during the trial period, or after it has expired.

What to do if your CD, DVD, or BD burner is not recognized

You may not be able to use your burner, or the burner may not be recognized, if it is already being used by another burning application. You may need to disable the other burning application before you can use Roxio RecordNow Music Lab to burn a disc. Roxio RecordNow Music Lab needs blank unformatted discs. If you have a formatted disc in the drive, remove it and replace it with a blank, unformatted disc.

General RecordNow Music Lab known issues

Note: Depending on the software version you are running, some of the applications described below may not be available. For information about upgrading to take full advantage of all the applications described, visit www.roxio.com.
 

Sound card must be installed

If you do not have a sound card installed and properly working, you may experience unexpected behavior in some components.
 

Outdated video drivers may cause unpredictable behavior

If you are experiencing unusual behavior with Roxio RecordNow Music Lab, or display problems, make sure that you have the latest video drivers for your system installed. You can find updated video drivers for your display adapter on your system (or video card) manufacturer's web site. It is recommended that you have the current video drivers for your display adapter installed. Many display or other related application problems can be solved by having current video drivers installed.
 

Some music tracks purchased online cannot be used in Roxio projects

Tracks purchased from online music stores may be protected and have different usage rights. For example, music tracks that you purchase online might only allow for audio CD creation; in this example, you could not browse for a purchased music track and add it to your Roxio projects.
 

Disable drive emulation software

Some drive emulation software may conflict with Roxio RecordNow Music Lab. If you have drive emulation software installed, you should disable it to use Roxio RecordNow Music Lab. For more information, visit the Roxio Support web site. See Roxio support options.
 

Third-party packet writing software may cause problems

Packet writing software provides an alternative to writing entire tracks or discs, but may cause problems when using Roxio RecordNow Music Lab. If you have problems formatting or writing to discs, uninstall any packet writing software and try again. For more information, visit the Roxio Support web site. See Roxio support options.
 

Display settings lower than 1024 X 768 may result in display issues

Roxio RecordNow Music Lab is designed to be displayed at a resolution of 1024 X 768 or higher. Parts of the application may not display correctly if:

  • you resize the program window to a size smaller than 1024 X 768
  • your resolution is set to 1024 X 768, but the size of your Windows taskbar is larger than the default
  • there are too many toolbars open on your Windows Desktop
     

Audio and video format playback requires correct CODEC on the system

Many of the supported audio and video formats (such as AVI, WMA, WMV, and WAV) support various types of compression and decompression. To play these formats, you need the correct CODEC installed on your system. For example, you might have an AVI file that uses CODEC ABC, and a WMV file that uses CODEC XYZ. If your system only has CODEC ABC installed, only the AVI file will play properly.

To get the required CODEC, play the file in another player on your system, such as Windows Media Player. Usually these players detect that the CODEC is missing and will automatically request that it be sent over the Internet and installed on your system.
 

Video thumbnails may not display properly at less than 24-bit color

If the video thumbnails are not displaying properly, make sure that your display settings are set to 24-bit true color or higher.
 

WMV previews do not play automatically

When you double-click a Windows Media Video (WMV) file to preview it, the Preview window opens, but does not start to play the file automatically. This is intentional, to prevent the incorrect playback of WMV slideshows in this player window. To preview the file, click the Play button in the Preview window.
 

QuickTime is required to use MOV files

To use MOV files in your Roxio projects you must have the latest version of Apple QuickTime installed. Visit www.quicktime.com for more information.
 

General CD and DVD burning issues

Many burning problems can be resolved by updating the firmware of your CD or DVD recorder. (Please check the drive manufacturer's Web site to see if a firmware update is available.) Other issues may be resolved by using another brand of blank media.
 

AutoPlay handler disabled when using some components

Windows XP AutoPlay functionality is disabled while the following components are open:

  • Label Creator
  • Disc Copier

This behavior is by design to ensure that AutoPlay does not interfere with recording to disc. When you close these applications, AutoPlay will run normally.
 

WAV file created from an analog recording is unusable

In Windows 2000, if the IDE controllers are running in PIO mode, recordings made from analog sources (such as an LP) may not be usable. The data transfer rate is not fast enough in PIO mode. To resolve this problem, change the IDE controllers to DMA mode. To do so, complete the following steps:

  1. In Windows Control Panel, double-click System, and then select the Hardware tab. 
  2. Click the Device Manager button, and then expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
  3. Double-click Primary IDE Channel, and then select the Advanced Settings tab.
  4. For Transfer Mode, select DMA if available, and then click OK.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the Secondary IDE Channel.
