Using Media Manager with a mobile device

Media Manager supports mobile devices with USB, Bluetooth, or Windows Mobile connections. For a list of supported mobile devices, click here.

USB connections

For USB connections, make sure that you have the device manufacturer's USB driver.

Bluetooth connections

For Bluetooth connections, you need a mobile device that supports ObexFTP and a Bluetooth adapter supporting Microsoft, BTW (Broadcom) or IVT (BlueSoleil) drivers. Your mobile device must be paired to your PC using the driver's software before use with Media Manager.

Windows Mobile devices

For Windows Mobile devices, make sure that you have ActiveSync 4.1 or higher.

Known issues

Audio files transferred to an iPod cannot be played.

When Media Manager transfers audio or video files to an iPod, it does not add them to the iPod database. Therefore, the files are not playable using the standard iPod user interface. A workaround is to convert them to a folder on hard disk using Video Copy & Convert, Audio/Video Converter, or Audio Converter, and then use iTunes to copy them to the iPod.

For some media types, properties do not display, and lock symbol does not appear for locked files.

For some media formats, including ASF, MP3, WMA, and WMV, file lock status and properties do not display in Media Manager. This is a technical limitation. The problem occurs because Media Manager runs as a system process, and thus cannot obtain this information from the Windows Media Source Filter.

Media Manager cannot access some media file types from a network location.

Media Manager cannot access WMV, ASF, WMA, and MP3 files if they are at a network location. If you want to access these file types in Media Manager, first copy them to your computer and then access them.

Large TIFF files may take a long time to open

Very large TIFF files may take a long time to open. If you experience this problem, try using files in a different format.

Audio files cannot be previewed without a sound card

If you do not have a sound card installed on your computer, you cannot preview audio files.

Documentation updates

Changing photo creation date and time

Sometimes the creation date and time for a photo is incorrect. This can happen, for example, if you forget to set the date and time on your digital camera before taking a picture. Media Manager allows you to correct the creation date and time for multiple photos at once.

You can change the date in the following ways:

  • assign the same date and time to all photos (for example, set all files to July 1, 2007 at 9:00 a.m.)
  • shift the date and time by a specified number of days and hours (for example, shift the date and time by 3 days and 8 hours; a photo dated July 3 at 1:00 a.m. will be redated July 6 at 9:00 a.m.)
  • set the time and date of the earliest file. The time and date of the other files will be changed to keep the original time difference from the earliest file.

To change the photo creation date:

  1. Select the photos for which you want to update the date or time.
  2. Right-click one of the selected photos, and choose Date/Time Update Tool.
  3. To change all files to the same date and time, follow these steps:
    1. Select Set Date & Time.
    2. In the date box, type a new date, or click the arrow to select a date from the calendar.
    3. In the time box, type a new time, or select the hours, minutes, or seconds, and use the arrows to increase or decrease them.
  4. To shift the date and time, follow these steps:
    1. Select Shift Date & Time.
    2. To shift to a more recent date or time, click Forward; to shift to an earlier date or time, click Backward.
    3. In the Days box, specify the number of days by which you want to shift the date.
    4. In the Hours box, specify the number of hours by which you want to shift the time.
  5. To adjust the date and time by specifying a new date and time for the earliest file, follow these steps:
    1. Select Set first date and maintain time difference.
    2. In the date box, type a date for the earliest file, or click the arrow to select a date from the calendar.
    3. In the time box, type a time for the earliest file, or select the hours, minutes, or seconds, and use the arrows to increase or decrease them.
  6. To see the effect of your change, click Preview.
Tip: To change back to the original date and time, click Reset.
  7. If you are satisfied with the new date and time, click OK.
