Known issues

Backing up to DVD-RW media using the Compression backup option causes "write failure"

If the Compression option is enabled in your backup project and you are backing up to DVD-RW media, the backup will fail and a “write failure” error message will appear. If this occurs, the disc can be re-used (or formatted) for other purposes since DVD-RW media is erasable. To back up to DVD-RW media, you must de-select the Compression option in your backup project.

Can only restore data/files from a Roxio Backup disc using Roxio Retrieve

Due to a conflict with McAfee VirusScan 9, the Roxio driver “RxFilter” has been disabled by default upon installation. This means that, to restore data/files from a Roxio Backup disc, you will have to use the Roxio Retrieve program (as in the previous version).

However, if you are not running McAfee VirusScan 9 (or are running a later version) you may enable the RxFilter driver to use native Windows methods also (such as using Windows Explorer and browsing files folders) to access data on your Roxio Backup discs.

Note: Enabling the RxFilter driver on a system running McAfee VirusScan 9 will cause system lock-ups to occur upon the insertion of disc media. The RxFilter driver should only be enabled if you are not running McAfee Anti-Virus 9.

To enable the RxFilter driver:

  1. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.

  2. In the Run dialog box, type regedit, and then click OK.

  3. In Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RxFilter

  4. In the right pane, double-click Start.

  5. Change the value data to 1 and then click OK.

  6. Click File > Exit to close Registry Editor.

  7. Restart the computer.

Updates to the Roxio documentation

Blu-ray Discs are now supported

This release of Roxio Backup supports the use of the following Blu-Ray Disc formats when used with compatible Blu-ray drives: write-once (BD-R), rewritable (BD-RE), and double-layer (BD-DL).

Correction to Roxio Backup documentation

The Help for Roxio Backup incorrectly states that you can "create a backup project on your hard drive, and then burn it to a disc later." Although you can back up to a hard drive or disc, you cannot do both with one backup project. To back up to disc after backing up to hard drive, you must create a separate backup project to backup to disc. For information about backing up to disc, see the Roxio Backup Help.
