Using Media Manager with a mobile device

Media Manager supports mobile devices with USB, Bluetooth, or Windows Mobile connections. For a list of supported mobile devices, click here.

USB connections

For USB connections, make sure that you have the device manufacturer's USB driver.

Bluetooth connections

For Bluetooth connections, you need a mobile device that supports ObexFTP and a Bluetooth adapter supporting Microsoft, BTW (Broadcom) or IVT (BlueSoleil) drivers. Your mobile device must be paired to your PC using the driver's software before use with Media Manager.

Windows Mobile devices

For Windows Mobile devices, make sure that you have ActiveSync 4.1 or higher.

Known issues

Matrox Millennium G550 graphics card is not supported.

Due to the limited capabilities of this card, it is not supported for this application. Using this graphics card with Slideshow Assistant and Cinemagic will cause undesirable results.

In the Slideshow Assistant, applying Pan & Zoom effects to photos reduces image quality.

Applying Pan & Zoom effects to photos may result in a slight reduction in image quality, if the images are output to a video file or DVD (as this results in slightly higher compression). If you are saving a slideshow as a video file or DVD, and photo clarity is your highest concern, then either uncheck the Pan & Zoom box in the Slideshow Assistant, or choose a Transition Style that does not use Pan & Zoom.

Keyboard shortcuts for reordering slides in the Slideshow Assistant

You can change the order of slides in the Slideshow Assistant using keyboard shortcut keys. To move slides up, down, left, or right, press and hold the Ctrl key while using the arrow keys.

For some media types, properties do not display, and lock symbol does not appear for locked files.

For some media formats, including ASF, MP3, WMA, and WMV, file lock status and properties do not display in Media Manager. This is a technical limitation. The problem occurs because Media Manager runs as a system process, and thus cannot obtain this information from the Windows Media Source Filter.

Media Manager cannot access some media file types from a network location.

Media Manager cannot access WMV, ASF, WMA, and MP3 files if they are at a network location. If you want to access these file types in Media Manager, first copy them to your computer and then access them.

Large TIFF files may take a long time to open

Very large TIFF files may take a long time to open. If you experience this problem, try using files in a different format.

Audio files cannot be previewed without a sound card

If you do not have a sound card installed on your computer, you cannot preview audio files.

Updates to the Roxio documentation

Configuring a router with LiveShare and My MediaSpace

To use LiveShare and MediaSpace media-sharing capabilities, your router must be UPnP-compliant, and UPnP must be turned on. (Usually, you configure your router with the software that came with the router, or through a local administration web page that you access by typing a specific IP address into your web browser.)  For most routers, UPnP support is turned on by default.

Using LiveShare and My MediaSpace with a firewall

Many firewall applications, including Windows Firewall in Windows XP, warn you about peer-to-peer activity and about applications that make use of the Internet. Following are warning messages that some common firewall applications might display when you use Media Manager to share media.

Windows Firewall: Media Manager is accepting connections from the Internet. LiveShare is working normally. Click Unblock, and you will not see this warning again.

McAfee Internet Security Suite: Media Manager, RoxLiveShare or Roxio UPnP Renderer are requesting access to the Internet. LiveShare and MediaSpace are working normally. Click Grant Access, and you will not see this warning again.

Norton Internet Security: RoxUPnPServer is attempting to listen for connections from other computers.  MediaSpace is working normally. Select Always allow connections to this program on all ports, then click OK, and you will not see this warning again.

Norton Internet Security: Media Manager, RoxLiveShare or RoxUPnPRenderer is attempting to access the Internet. LiveShare and MediaSpace are working normally. Select Permit Always (Recommended), then click OK, and you will not see this warning again.

Zone Alarm: Media Manager, Roxio LiveShare Service, Roxio UPnP Renderer or Roxio UPnP Server is trying to act as a server. LiveShare and MediaSpace are working normally. Check Remember this setting, then click Allow, and you will not see this warning again.

Zone Alarm: Media Manager is trying to access the Internet. LiveShare is working normally. Check Remember this setting, then click Allow, and you will not see this warning again.

Zone Alarm: Media Manager wants to accept connections from the trusted zone. MediaSpace is working normally. Check Remember this setting, then click Allow, and you will not see this warning again.

LiveShare in a corporate environment

The LiveShare peer-to-peer photo sharing service is designed primarily for use on home, rather than corporate, networks.  From a corporate network, it should be easy to access a LiveShare running on a home PC (although a few corporate firewalls may prevent this). However, you probably cannot set up a LiveShare on a PC in a corporate network, as most corporate networks will not allow peer-to-peer applications.

MediaSpace (UPnP) in a corporate environment

MediaSpace (UPnP) is designed primarily for use on home networks, and will allow you to share media between Media Manager running on your PC and other PCs or devices that are UPnP-compliant. (Note: The device or PC which is sharing media must authorize other devices or PCs to play that media.)  In a corporate environment this may work, but only if all devices or PCs are on the same network subnet. (In a larger office there may be several different network subnets.)

Manage My MediaSpace dialog box: Correction

The context-sensitive Help for the Manage My MediaSpace dialog box erroneously refers to fields that do not exist on the dialog box. Please ignore references to the "All my albums to all enabled devices" and "Selected albums to selected devices" fields.
